Below is an example of handwriting on seven lined paper.  Each line gives a cue for where portions of the letters go.  To order paper.

Instructions for Seven Lined Practice Paper for Handwriting

There are seven lines.  Some lines are made a little different in appearance to help make them easier to use.  Number one line is the top one.  Number seven line is the bottom one.

Line number 1.  This line is never used for anything.  It merely gives a frame for the writing.  None of the letters ever touch it.  Letters that go clear to the top often smudge into the top line.

Line number 2.  This line is where the tall letters reach.  The reason to make the tall letters go to this line is to get used to seeing a small space between the top of the tall letters and the line above them.  Keeping them slightly shorter than the top line keeps them from smudging into the top line and having it disappear from sight.

Line number 3.  This line is just above the center line.  It is used for the cross on the t and the dot for the i.  On the fancier handwritten capital letters, the small loop at the top may come down as far as this line.

Line number 4.  This line is the center line.  The tops of the lower case letters come to this line.  The top of the first peak in the lower case handwritten cursive r comes to this line.

Line number 5.  This is the line just under the center line.  The second peak of the top of the lower case handwritten cursive r comes to this line.  The lower portion of the lower case o comes to this line.  The valleys between the humps at the tops of all of the lower case letters touch this line.

Line number 6.  This line is just above the very bottom line.  Where letters begin to split and go different directions is at this line.  The lower case handwritten cursive e crosses at this line.  Letters like d and b have lines that cross at this line.  The final end of words come to this line.

Line number 7.  This is the bottom line.  Most letters will not extend below this line.  Some do.  Letters like the lower case g, q, or y will extend below the bottom line.  When a letter extends below it will go the same distance as there is between the center line (line 4) and the bottom line.  Be generous with the tails on your letters because it adds elegance to your handwriting just like long legs add to the elegance of a fashion model.
